Do not weep, maiden, for war is kind

Do not weep, maiden, for war is kind
Do not weep, maiden, for war is kind.
Because your lover threw wild hands toward the sky
And the affrighted steed ran on alone,
Do not weep.
War is kind.

Hoarse, booming drums of the regiment,
Little souls who thirst for fight,
These men were born to drill and die.
The unexplained glory flies above them,
Great is the battle-god, great, and his kingdom --
A field where a thousand corpses lie.

Do not weep, babe, for war is kind.
Because your father tumbled in the yellow trenches,
Raged at his breast, gulped and died,
Do not weep.
War is kind.

Swift blazing flag of the regiment,
Eagle with crest of red and gold,
These men were born to drill and die.
Point for them the virtue of slaughter,
Make plain to them the excellence of killing
And a field where a thousand corpses lie.

Mother whose heart hung humble as a button
On the bright splendid shroud of your son,
Do not weep.
War is kind.

  1. Sade,

What you have posted to date, demonstrates that you are starting to engage with the unit. This is positive to see. However, you need to start answering in greater depth and exploring your evidence to a greater degree.

As well as this, you need to be vigilant about proof-reading and editing your work. There are lots of errors throughout your posts. Particularly, you need to be aware of spelling, punctuation, capital letters and extending your awareness of vocabulary and sentence construction.

Lastly, you are still behind on your homework.

Please refer to the class blog to see what you are missing and rectify the situation by no later than Friday.

If you are unsure of what you should do, make sure that you ask questions.

  2. Sade,

I can see you did not go to the library yesterday at lunch as you were instructed. Nor did you think to catch up with the missed work during prep last night.

You still need to do the exercise that required you to research a particular war and make notes/reflections.

You also need to start making reading reflection posts.

I suggest you start reading the class text, "To Kill A Mockingbird".

I expect to see the war notes completed by the end of lunch today, and, the first reading reflection completed by tonight.
