Romeo's Impulsivity

Romeo is a very impulsive character, his emotions cause him to make fast actions. A good example of this is when Tybalt kills Mercutio and Romeo gets upset and angry so when he sees Tybalt again, he kills him, without even thinking about it. Another example is when Romeo sees Juliet for the first time he instantly explains how he loves her, when he hadnt even talked to her, this is a sign of being impulsive.

Respect Your Elders!

The audience is positioned to see that in the Capulet household respect for the family elders is paramount. Tybalt learns in the play in act 1, scene 5, that by going against Lord Capulet he would lose the chance of becoming king. so he is to respect every command by him. Juliet, Lord Capulet's daughter shows her respect for her elder Capulet's when she explains to her mother, Lady Capulet that she will marry anyone her mother suggests.

Dear Diary,
I know i haven't written to you in a long time but i felt the need that this is something i definitely need to get off my chest. My family and i have recently gone on a trip to Mykonos to visit my favourite aunt. Although I'm still in Greece i feel like I'm on the other side of the world. I go back to Athens in 3 weeks and im not so sure i want to go back, even though all my friends are there. I've met this boy called Anthony and he is the most attractive boy, that is around my age, i have seen in a very long time. A couple of days ago he told me that he really liked me, i also have the exact same feelings for him. I told my mother about him and she told me that it was a very bad idea to be around this boy and i should stop seeing him immediatley as he is poor and his dad had been in a fight with my father a very long time ago and if my father had found out that i liked his son, he would go balistic. I really like this boy, but i have to keep sneaking around to go and see him and dont know in the end it will all be worth it. Although when im with Anthony i feel that everything is right, i feel so bad at the same time, lieing to my parents. Diary i dont know what to do but no matter what i choose to do, im going to feel bad for someone.

Discussion Questions:
1. Outline the subject matter of the song? its a love story, but its more complicated because at first her family dont approve of his family, until he goes and sees the father.

2. Why is the poem entitled “Love Story”? Use evidence from the lyrics to support the titles significance and relevance. It is entitled because the lyrics include romeo and juliet and the story about romeo and juliet is a tragic love story.

3. Describe the relationship between the two characters. Who are they? two teenagers in love

4. What evidence is there to suggest that these lovers have to overcome obstacles in their relationship? you can tell they have to overcome obstacles from lyrics like 'my daddy said stay away from juliet'

5. What themes and issues are explored in the lyrics and through the video clip? the theme in the video is like olden day clothes and the issues brought up are quite the same as romeo and juliet

6. How does the “Love story” end for Romeo and Juliet in the song? Is this how it ends for the Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet? Why does Taylor Swift end her song this way? What perspective is she writing from and why would they want the story to end this way? the difference is that the actual Romeo and Juliet play ends different from the taylor swift song. i think this is because with a love story everyone wants it to end well, so she decided she would make it like that.
